Author Guidelines

Working languages are: preferably English, but also French and German. Other contributions, such as in Spanish, Russian, Japanese, Chinese, etc., will have to be translated to be more widely accessible. (In these cases we may publish both the original and an English translation to accommodate diverse audiences).

There is no restriction on size, but book-length papers are discouraged. An abstract should be included.

We encourage prospective contributors to submit both a pdf and also a Word version of their papers. Due to the large number of diacritics employed in certain languages, we suggest the use of one of the widely available Unicode fonts (such as Arial Unicode MS, Times Extended Roman, Gentium, Gandhari, etc.).

Maps, photos, and diagrams should be supplied in pdf, jpg or similar popular formats, and they should be included in the pdf submission of the article.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format plus a support pdf file.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
